Indrayan Roots/Bitter Apple Root:- The Indrayan Roots or Bitter Apple Root plant has a large perennial root that sends out long and slender, angular, tough, rough vine-like stems. The stems are normally spread on the ground and have a tendency to climb over herbs and shrubs by their axillaries branching tendrils.A scabrid perennial twining herb or climber, usually prostate, or spreading on ground with slender stem and bifid hairy tendrils. Bitter Apple Root deep, branched, stout, dull-yellowish or pale brown, smooth, cylindrical. This Indrayan Roots is available in cut pieces of 2 – 7 cm long, 0.2 – 2.5 cm thick, cylindrical, slightly twisted; dull yellow; longitudinal fissures present; fracture short; taste intensively bitter. In Fruit is bitter, emetic, cathartic, diuretic, expectorant and alternative. Used in chronic constipation, dropsy, fever, piles, asthma, jaundice and as hair tonic. Found in sandy soils throughout India up to 1500m mainly in Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.Indrayan Roots is perennial herbs usually trailing. Commonly found wild in the sandy lands of North West, the Punjab, Sind, and Central and southern India, and coromandal coast. Also found indigenous in Arabia, West Asia, and Tropical Africa and in the Mediterranean region. It originally bore the scientific name Colocynthis citrullus, but is now classified as Citrullus colocynthis. Tendrils are simple, 2- 3 fits slender and hairy. Leaves are very variable in size.
