Senna Leaves (Sanay)

The senna plant, or Fructus Sennae, is a low shrub with pale green to yellow leaves. Its leaves are used for medicinal purposes, most commonly to treat constipation. The leaves contain chemicals that irritate the bowel lining, creating a laxative effect. We can use dried senna leaves to brew tea, or you can buy a commercial form of senna leaves available as a liquid, a powder or a tablet.
